I am so excited to be back working with the middle schoolers and bringing them art! They love it, and it's a great way to stimulate their creativity and expose them to different kinds of art and media.

Our Journey through Art program is a volunteer run fine art program aiming to teach students about art history and to experience different media and learn art techniques. It is a non-judgmental program that fosters the student’s own expression of their creativity. The program is sponsored by the Casimir PTSA, and all materials are supplied by the PTA.

All students will have a chance to do 3 art projects this year. There will be a project in the fall, winter, and spring. Art projects will be done on Fridays during the student’s Social Studies cla class. There will also be a brief art history and introduction to the project the day before.

We are always in need of volunteers. There are 3 ways to volunteer:

DOCENT – Attend 3 workshops for training on October 20, January 12, and March 22 (3:45 – 5:00pm). A professional artist teaches you an exciting art project step by step. After each workshop, you will teach that project to the students, a 15-20 minute art history on Thursday and project on Friday. You can even work in your own child’s classroom. Docent workshops will be after school on Tuesdays at Lincoln Elementary in the cafeteria.

ASSISTANT – Assist docents during the classroom project with set up, clean up, and students. Just be there to help! (No workshops or teaching required.)

MATERIALS PREP – Prepare materials as needed for a project. This may entail cutting, sorting, and/or basic preparation, and can be done outside of school hours in your home.

There will be a brief meeting for docents (assistants are welcome to join) at 3:25pm on Tuesday, October 17th to orient to the program and provide information to get started. If you are remotely interested in possibly becoming a docent, this is a great opportunity to check it out and give it a try. Please contact Diane for further info.

All volunteers need to fill out a volunteer form, and turn in a copy of your drivers' license and current negative mantoux TB test (good for 4 years) to the office. This is a school requirement.
