COURSE: ALGEBRA 1 MR. TAKEHANA
Fall 2009
COURSE EMPHASIS
Algebra 1 students will study topics that include rational and radical expressions, exponents, polynomials, linear and quadratic equations, graphing, factoring, and functions.
MATERIALS
1. Textbook-Prentice Hall’s Algebra 1-All books must be covered.
2. TWO pencils or mechanical pencil with extra lead, eraser, red pen or color pencil, blue or black pen, and a ruler.
3. Lines paper and graph paper for assignments.
4. Three-ring binder with 4 sections-Class Notes / Work, Assignments, Tests / Quizzes, Paper.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned and graded every day. Every paper must have the correct school heading in the upper right hand corner. Without the heading, you will not receive full credit. Homework is due the next class period and will be discussed as necessary. When you are absent, it is your responsibility to turn in your assignment the day of your return.
1. All work must be done in pencil. No pens or colored pencils.
2. All work should be done neatly with mistakes erased.
3. Box or underline your answers.
Students can earn a total of 4 points on each assignment. A point will be deducted for the following reasons:
u Unexcused late work (1 point off for each day it is late)
u Not having the proper heading
u Assignments not done in pencil
u No work shown for problems (deduct 3 points)
The grades will be recorded on an “Assignment Sheet.” Students are responsible to keep all homework assignments until the teacher collects the “Assignment Sheet” with all the assignments stapled in order. Assignment packets will be due on or before the day of a test. You will lose point for missing assignment or late work.
GRADING POLICY
Your grade in this class will be based upon your scores on quizzes, tests, homework, projects, and notebook.
A 100%-90% B89%-80% C79%-70% D69%-60% F Below 60%
Effort Grade: This grade is based on your assignment grade.
Citizenship Grade: This grade is based on classroom behavior, following directions, number of tardies, etc.
u Students may redo an assignment as long as it is “4 point quality.” Please note that the most a student can earn on a make-up is 3 points since it is considered “late.”
u Students will be given an opportunity to correct errors on chapter test for a higher grade.
MAKEUP/EXTRA HELP
If you are having trouble comprehending the material, get help immediately. DO NOT WAIT!! I will be available during lunch and after school on selected days of the week. The schedule will be announced later. It is your responsibility to makeup tests and quizzes when you are absent.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR
1. Be PREPARED. Come to class on time and bring your book and supplies.
2. Respect others.
3. Always follow directions. Life is not always fair.
CONSEQUENCES
1. Your name on the board
2. Check next to your name-Student will be dismissed last in order to discuss the issue at hand with the teacher
3. 2nd check-parent/guardian will be contacted
4. 3rd check-parent conference will be requested
5. 4th check-student will be referred to the office
*Your name will remain on the board for a week.
